90’s TV shows
Ughhhhh! I miss the 90’s. I really do. I remember some of the best television shows came out of that decade that the 21st century has yet to outdo. Each show has its own sentimental effect on me and brings back so many memories which makes me miss the old times even more. So let’s reminisce together.
Nickelodeon! Nick in the 90’s was the shit. T.V. shows like, Ah Real Monsters, which I never really liked unless there was nothing on Disney channel, Doug, Cousin Skeeter, Rugrats, Rin & Stimpy, Rosco’s Modern Life, CatDog, Angry Beavers and I’m sure you can think of even more of the cartoons. I’m bummed they took them off the air. Who gives them the right because I wasn’t done watching them? They can at least run some of the re-runs. The nerve! Anyway, I was always so proud to know that the live recorded shows like Kennan and Kel and all that had been filmed at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. I lived in Orlando so I felt more special then say someone who lived in Tampa. I remember going on a field trip to the recording of game shows, Figure It Out, where I was breathing the same air as some big time nickelodeon stars and Slime Time Live. My cousin Kelvan was lucky enough to go up and get slimed. I was so jealous and he wouldn’t tell me what the slime tasted like. Ooooo I was so mad. He could’ve saved me a just little bit. I recall the other game shows on Nickelodeon like Double Dare, and Legends of the Hidden Temple and loving the prices they offered like a bike or a VCR. Hahaha those would have value or worth now.
Oh yeah and Dragon Ball Z, Jonny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter’s Laboratory and Power Puff Girls where all the rage on the cartoon network channel.
Ughhhhh, 90’s TV shows. I miss them. There are probably so many more that I just forgot to mention. Help me out with your comments.
90′s Movies

90’s Movies
Movies of the 90’s have become the classics of now. Especially those exclusive Disney movies that stay in the magical vault. Disney movies were a must have in the home, and every child had their favorite one that they’d watch almost daily. Mine was the Little Mermaid; it never got old. I think I’m the one who burned the VCR out with constant use. I also loved Toy Story, A Bugs Life, 101 Dalmatians, Lion King, Aladdin and so many more. As well as the less conventional, the Goofy Movie which I still get excited for when I see its coming on. I’m not ashamed to say I owned almost ever Disney movie on VHS.

Believe it or not, there were other movies that did pretty well during this decade other than Disney’s. Real life movies such as Flubber with Robin Williams, Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin, and Edward Scissorhands with Johnny Depp. I remember watching that movie My Girl where the little boy dies from the bee sting, I think that was the first time I had ever cried from a movie so young (well I did cry in Tarzan but that didn’t count because I just had something in my eye). But nothing beats the Little Rascals with Alfalfa and little Darla. “I got a pickle, I got a pickle, I got a pickle hey hey hey hey!” You can’t forget the Sand Lot either. The movie about the neighborhood boys’ and their baseball adventures as well as the “Beast” who lurked beyond the fence and gobbled up their baseballs.
We can’t forget some of the other animation movies that we all watched. One of which being Land Before Time with the baby dinosaurs Ducky, Little Foot, Sarah etc, and their thrilling adventures. At the time, I really perceived prehistoric life to be like that. There was also the Swan Princess, Thumbelina, Fern Gully, and American Tail with the little mouse. Oh yeah, and Space Jam! Who knew Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny were friends? Hell, who knew Michael Jordan could act? That movie was a favorite amongst me and my brothers and it was a treat to sit down on the couch with pop corn and juice (since mom didn’t let us drink soda), turn off all the light to simulate a theater and enjoy the action with them.

90’s Video Games
Anyone remember the video games of the 90’s? I mean before games like Call of Duty where you can talk and communicate verbally with other players across the world. Before communication and technology was as advanced as it is now. When I think back to the Video games of the 90’s, I get the best memories. These were the times when my big brother and I saw each other on a daily basis and not just once or twice a year. I remember him teaching me how to use the controller and explaining which buttons did what. We had a Nintendo, and the hand held Sega. Out of all the games he had I recall my favorite being Crash Bandicoot. It was the one with the crazy red fox/Tasmanian devil looking creature. But I can’t forget to mention the other hit games of the 90’s, well the ones we had. There was Tomb Raider. I remember her long braid and how fearless she was. She was my role model for a good month or two, until I fell in love with Donkey Kong and Sonic the Hedgehog. Those games had so much action and excitement plus it was easy to complete. But whenever it got to the boss level, I’d turn off the game or pass the controller to big brother. Especially in super Mario; something about Browser didn’t sit right with me.
But wait, I’m not done, there were also games those fighting games like Mortal Combat, and Ready 2 Rumble. R2R was so addicting and the characters where hilarious. There was Afro Thunder, Suma wrestler Salua, Boris “The Bear” Knokimov, and many more. They said that each was made from scratch.
What about Ninja Turtles, Spryo the Dragon, the Legend of Zelda, Dragon Ball Z, and even Frogger. I personally loved the Game Boy; especially on long road trips. I had all the Pokémon’s, and other games such as Super Mario Land, and Metroid.
All in all, the point I’m trying to make is I miss the 90’s!!!
90’s Toys and Games

This has got to be my most sentimental entry yet because as I was thinking about the different toys of the 90’s I remembered Christmas mornings opening all these different gifts, playing with them outside with my neighborhood friends and bringing these same toys to school just to get them taken away. This list goes on for days, starting with the tomagotchi/ giga pet. I think back and laugh when I recall the time I snuck mine into my kindergarten class and thought I was being slick trying to feel it under the table during arts and crafts. Not surprisingly, it was confiscated.
There was also the Furby, which was so in style and desired until you actually got one. That had to be the most annoying toy I ever had. I threw mine away alive. I could hear it in the trash can saying “feed me, feed me”. Ughh. But besides that I miss so many of the toys from the 90s. Remember outside games like skip it, hoola hoop, roller blades and even the Razor Scooter. Oh how I loved my green razor scooter. I decorated mine with the holographic stickers I got from different vending machines. I realize how tacky that would look now.
I remember the different board games we played at sleepovers or even on play dates like Hungry Hippos, Operation, Trouble, Don’t Wake Daddy, Bop It, and the game of music memory, Simon. There were also those toys that everyone collected and if you didn’t have any, you probably didn’t have any friends either. Pokémon cards! I can talk about Pokémon cards for days. I was so proud when I could haggle a good trade or open up a new pack and expose a holographic Charzard , Richu or better yet, Mewto! The other popular collectables were Beanie Babies and those ugly troll dolls with the nappy, rainbow colored hair.
Of course I had my fair share of barbies, but what little girl didn’t and my mom finally gave in and bought me an Easy Bake oven which I used to bake my mini brownies and cakes for the tea parties I held with my little brother and stuffed animals. Also the school yard games come to mind like hop scotch, four square, tag, kick ball and war ball. Sigh, the nostalgia is really beginning to kick in.
90’s Music/songs

90’s Music/songs
Music in the 90s. Hmmmm, I look back and laugh at some of the things I thought were so cool. Music has changed so much since then, such as auto tune, Lil’ Wayne and Hannah Montana/ Miley Cyrus. I remember being on a family road trip and begging to stop at the nearest shopping center just so I could rush to buy the new Brittany Spears cassette tape, that way I could listen to it for the rest of the way. Shaking my head now. Oh how far we have come. But nonetheless there are many great songs from the 90’s that evoke so much emotion and memories from me and will never fade or lose its “coolness” in my book.
Spice Girls! Remember them? I remember all my friends wanting to be Baby Spice when we imitated them on the play ground but of course my favorite was Scary Spice. Just something about her familiar afro interested me. Their hit song was Wanna Be. But that was not the only group that was popular then. There was also, S Club 7 (they had a TV show too), and of course the two favorite boy bands, Backstreet Boys and N’Sync. Oh how I loved them both. Everyone picked their favorite future husband. I’m embarrassed to state mine now, especially since one of them is now gay. Bye Bye Bye and I Want It That Way were songs played at every sleep over. We would have our brushes in our hand and almost yell along with the song. Ohhhh how we thought we did the songs justice.
Those might’ve been some of the popular pop groups of the time but there were even more famous solo artists out. Like Brittany Spears before she lost her damn mind. I knew every word to every song on her album, such as Hit Me Baby One More Time. Everyone knew that song. There was also her rival Christina Aguilera with her hit Genie in a Bottle. But I never really liked her that much. What about Aaron Carter? All the girlies loved him, including me. He was like the Justin Bieber of the 90’s. Enough said.
I was not only listening to pop songs then, I also had my fair share of hip-hop and r&b. There was Destiny’s Child before Beyonce’s solo career blew up and TLC before. Left Eye died. Speaking of Left Eye, I can’t forget to mention the other fallen artists of the 90’s, Tupac, Notorious BIG and the elegant Aaliyah. With whom each have their legacy and music continue to live on even after their death.
I just want to mention a couple other artists and groups of the 90’s such as the Hanson’s, Sir Mix A lot, Will Smith, Ricky Martin, Kriss Kross and songs like Humpty Dance, Baby Got Back, Jump, Getting’ Jiggy With It, and many more.
Fashions & Fads of the 90’s

Think back to the clothes you had in your closet as a child growing. Things that seemed so cool are now obsolete and out of style. Try walking into a party wearing overalls and a fanny pack. Your fashions sense would definitely be questioned. Baggy pants were in as well as Clueless inspired baby-doll dresses with high school girl socks. Many women also turned to the wonder bra and having their bra strap exposed.

I remember everyone having the slap bracelets as well as the WWJD ones. They are similar to the rosary bracelets that everyone wears now. And all the cool, business people had a beeper and a serious brick cell phone. Compare the first cell phones to the modern day ones we have how. Huge change. My little brother and I had out own walkie-talkie. We would always use them in the grocery store and hide from each other while mom shopped. Good times.
As a little girl, I had almost every school supply Lisa Frank., the folders with the puppies, kittens and unicorns and pretty pink colors. I also had dozens of colorful scrunchies that I rocked everyday along with my barrettes my mom clipped at the bottom of my braids. But for most other girls the flat look was in while waves and curls were out. “Girl Power” was the common motto practiced by me and all my friends especially since boys had cooties. The words used most often was “psych” and “as if”. The Macarena was as popular as Soulja Boy’s Crank That Soulja Boy. I was proud of my bell bottoms and spaghetti straps. I also had a pair of sketchers, Keds; light up shoes and Velcro shoes. The boys rocked the sports jersey, Nike Air Jordan’s and the flat top fade.
